Bolt Cylinder Head

China Bolt Cylinder Head Suppliers

The cylinder head bolt is a slender rod in appearance, with a thread at one end, which is used to screw the corresponding threaded hole on the cylinder body; The other end has a head that is easy for the tool to tighten, and the common head shapes are hexagonal, dodecagon, etc., to adapt to different wrenches. The rod part of the bolt is uniform in diameter, and the surface is specially processed to have a high finish to ensure that it can smoothly pass through the bolt holes of the cylinder head and cylinder block during tightening. Its material is usually selected high-strength alloy steel, such as chrome-molybdenum alloy steel, etc., such materials have excellent strength and toughness, and can withstand the huge mechanical and thermal stress generated when the engine is working.

How it works:

During the engine assembly process, the technician will use a professional torque wrench to tighten the cylinder head bolts according to the specified torque value and tightening sequence. This is because the appropriate torque can cause the bolt to produce a certain tensile deformation, thus forming a pre-tightening force inside the bolt. When the engine is working, the high temperature and high pressure gas generated by the Combustion Chamber will produce upward thrust on the cylinder head, trying to separate the cylinder head from the cylinder block. At this time, the tension borne by the cylinder head bolt will further increase, but because it has applied enough preload force during assembly, the bolt can overcome the thrust of the gas, maintain a close connection between the cylinder head and the cylinder block, and ensure the normal operation of the engine. At the same time, during the long-term operation of the engine, the bolt will be subjected to alternating loads, that is, the tension it bears will change within a certain range, which requires the cylinder head bolt to have good fatigue resistance to ensure that there will be no loosening or breakage within the specified service life.

Common types:

Ordinary bolt: The structure is relatively simple, widely used in some ordinary models that have not particularly high engine performance requirements. Its manufacturing process is mature and the cost is low, but its performance is relatively limited under high strength loads and complex working conditions.

High-strength bolts: made of special high-strength materials, through a strict heat treatment process, with higher strength and yield limits. This type of bolt can withstand greater preload and working load, suitable for high-performance engines and engines operating under harsh conditions, such as racing engines, construction machinery engines, etc.

Bolts with elastic elements: Elastic elements are designed inside or at the head of the bolt, such as dish-spring washers. These elastic elements can compensate the bolt preload loss caused by thermal expansion, cold contraction, vibration and other factors in the working process of the engine to a certain extent, improve the reliability and stability of the bolt connection, often used in the engine with high reliability requirements for the connection.
