Valve Intake/Valve Exhaust

The intake valve and exhaust valve are critical components of an internal combustion engine, playing a pivotal role in managing the flow of air, fuel, and exhaust gases. These valves are located in the cylinder head and are operated by the Camshaft via the valve train, ensuring precise timing for optimal engine performance.

Intake Valve:
The intake valve is responsible for allowing the air-fuel mixture or fresh air to enter the Combustion Chamber. When the intake valve opens, it creates a pathway for the mixture to flow into the cylinder, where it will be compressed and ignited. The efficiency of the intake valve directly impacts engine power, fuel economy, and emissions. Larger or multiple intake valves can improve airflow, enhancing performance in high-performance or turbocharged engines.

Exhaust Valve:
The exhaust valve serves the opposite function, allowing burnt gases to exit the combustion chamber after the power stroke. When the exhaust valve opens, it releases the high-pressure exhaust gases into the exhaust manifold, which then flows through the exhaust system. Proper operation of the exhaust valve is crucial for maintaining engine efficiency, reducing backpressure, and ensuring compliance with emissions standards.

Both valves are subjected to extreme conditions, including high temperatures, pressure, and mechanical stress. As a result, they are typically made from durable materials like heat-resistant alloys to withstand these harsh environments. The valves are also designed with precise sealing surfaces to prevent leaks, ensuring proper compression and combustion.
